Step By Step Tutorial

⬜️ Step 1: Draw a Rectangle

Use the Rectangle Tool in Illustrator to draw a box — any size you like.

This will act as your bento grid base.

💡 Tip: Larger rectangles allow more flexibility for section layouts.

🎛️ Step 2: Pick a Bento Style
  1. Select the rectangle you just created

  2. Click any Bento Style button in the extension

  3. A layout will be applied instantly

You can experiment with different base layouts to fit your project style.

✏️ Step 3: Customise the Grid

Head to the Customise Tab to make adjustments:

  • Section Count – change how many sections appear in the grid

  • Corner Radius – round the edges of the boxes

  • Spacing – adjust the padding between sections

🧠 These settings help you match your brand or presentation aesthetic.

🔀 Step 4: Shuffle & Finalise
  • Click Shuffle to explore layout variations based on your settings

  • When you’re happy, click Finalise to lock the layout and make it editable

🛑 Once finalised, the layout becomes grouped — ready for image or content placement.

🖼️ Step 5: Add Images

Want to drop images into your bento layout? Easy:

  1. Place your image over any section of the bento grid

  2. Select both the image and the section

  3. Right-click and choose Make Clipping Mask

Repeat for each section to complete your layout.
